Elers Named To Google Cloud Academic All-District First Team

RAPID CITY, S.D. — South Dakota School of Mines men’s basketball player Logan Elers has been named to the 2018-19 Google Cloud Academic All-District® First Team announced by CoSIDA on Thursday.

Elers is a junior from Rotorua, New Zealand, majoring in Metallurgical Engineering with a 3.90 Grade Point Average (GPA). The 6-foot-7-inch forward is having an outstanding season for the Hardrockers. So far this year, Elers has earned two Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week Awards and received RMAC All-Academic First Team Honors.

The 2018-19 Google Cloud Academic All-District® Basketball Teams recognize the nation’s top scholar-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom. The Google Cloud Academic All-America® program separately recognizes basketball honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.

Elers has some impressive stats so far this season. He’s started every game this year and is second on the team with a rebounding averaging 6.2 per game. He also is contributing on the offensive end with 11.7 points per game as the team’s second leading scorer and is shooting almost 55 percent from the field. . He’s also has four double-doubles this season.

“Logan is a talented basketball player, an exceptional scholar and just an extraordinary young man,” said Hardrocker men’s basketball head coach Eric Glenn. “He’s not only balancing a challenging academic workload and a rigorous athletic regiment — he is excelling at it. All that hard work is paying off. You can see that on the court and in the classroom. I’m happy for Logan to receive this type of recognition and that his efforts are being noticed at a national level.”
